New Criminal Laws: Three new criminal laws will come into force across the country from Monday (July 1). These laws will bring significant changes to India's criminal justice system and end the colonial-era laws. Meanwhile, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief Asaduddin Owaisi accused the central government of not doing anything to resolve the 'major issues' related to the new laws.
Asaduddin Owaisi, Lok Sabha MP from Hyderabad, has shared a video of his Lok Sabha speech of December last year on social media. In which Owaisi is opposing three new laws. Owaisi shared on social media and wrote that, three new criminal laws will come into force from tomorrow. Despite major problems in their implementation, the government has not done anything to remove them. Owaisi said that these were the issues that I had raised to oppose their implementation.
New laws 'threat to civil liberties and rights': Owaisi
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said the provisions of these new laws are a 'threat to the civil liberties and rights of the people'. He said that these give power to the police to take action against anyone. For example, Owaisi had hinted at the implementation of sedition in a 'different avatar' in his speech of December 20, 2023. He had said that it was proposed to increase the punishment for this crime from 3 years to 7 years.

These laws are a threat to Muslims, Dalits and Adivasis
AIMIM MP from Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat Asaduddin Owaisi had claimed that these laws would be a threat to the Muslims, Dalits and tribals of the country. 30% of the prisoners across the country and 33% of the prisoners in Uttar Pradesh alone are Muslims. Let us tell you that the Indian Judicial Code, Indian Civil Defense Code and Indian Evidence Act will replace the British era Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure Code and Indian Evidence Act respectively.
