Transgender girl: Transgenders in India also have the right to equality, but despite this, cases of discrimination against them keep coming up. One such case has come up in Assam. Here a school expelled a transgender girl because she had shared pictures of herself wearing a bikini on social media.
The girl's mother herself has given this information. The transgender girl's mother has written a letter to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. She has also demanded justice from the CM.
Letter written to the Chief Minister of Assam
“My daughter, who was born in a male body, did not choose this life of struggle, where she is being bullied and hated for who she is. The recent incident at her school in Assam has shaken the very core of our faith in the institutions created to protect and nurture our children. Schools should be centres of learning but have become an arena for judgement. This is my daughter's plight, a plight many have faced, often silenced in the shadow of ignorance,” she wrote in the letter.
Mother raised questions on the school principal
According to a TOI report, the girl's mother has accused the school principal of 'defaming', 'undermining' and 'making fun of' her daughter, besides targeting her authenticity and her existence. On the other hand, the school authorities said that the girl's pictures depict obscenity and they have only asked that these pictures be removed from social media.
Photos were posted on June 9
Let us tell you that the girl had clicked some pictures during a family vacation on June 9 last month. She was wearing a bikini, she shared these pictures on her social media account. However, a transgender girl studying in South Point School in Guwahati, Assam was expelled from the school, the school principal had also objected to the girl's bikini photos.
Transgender Welfare Board complained
Meanwhile, the state's transgender welfare board has approached the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR). They have said that no one can show a child's body and its picture in a sexual manner. On June 26, ASCPCR began hearing the case, in which the transgender girl's family told about the incident. Commission chairman Shyamal Prasad Saikia said that we have heard the complainant and will now call the school authorities. After hearing both the parties, we will hold a meeting on a fixed date. After this, legal action will be initiated.
